Case study: Real-world success with DEI Strategy

A Division within a Department of the Government of Victoria engaged MindTribes to create a DEI Strategy and Action Plan. This initiative aimed to improve workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion, build internal capability, and foster a culturally safe environment. The project was supported by the Division’s Executive Leadership Team and coordinated by the staff D&I Advisory Group.

MindTribes conducted an extensive staff consultation process using multiple methods to gather input from various levels within the Division. This included small group sessions, individual interviews, executive presentations, and an online survey. These activities provided a comprehensive understanding of the current DEI culture and identified specific needs and challenges. Collaborative workshops were also held with the D&I Advisory Group to develop actionable recommendations based on the consultation findings.

The consultation process revealed several important insights that informed the development of the DEI Strategy and Action Plan. The findings highlighted the need for systemic implementation of DEI practices, greater diversity in leadership, improved recruitment and retention practices, and enhanced training programs. Additionally, the need for better support mechanisms and transparent feedback channels was emphasised. These insights guided the creation of a roadmap with specific actions aimed at fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.

The DEI Strategy and Action Plan developed by MindTribes provided a clear and actionable roadmap for the Division to enhance its DEI practices. The plan included strategies for policy review, leadership initiatives, complaints handling, feedback mechanisms, workplace culture, and training.
