Why is a Gender Equality Action Plan?
A Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) is a strategic document that outlines the steps an organisation will take to achieve gender equality goals. It provides a roadmap for integrating gender equality principles into the organisation’s culture, policies, and practices. The plan addresses key areas such as closing gender pay gaps, enhancing the representation of women in leadership, and creating a supportive environment for all genders.

Case Study
A Department of the Victorian Government engaged MindTribes to create a Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) as part of their commitment to the Gender Equality Act 2020. The initiative aimed to address gender disparities, enhance diversity and inclusion, and comply with legislative requirements. The consultation process was designed to gather insights from staff and inform actionable recommendations for the GEAP.
MindTribes conducted a series of consultation workshops to gather input from the department’s staff. These workshops included open discussions, breakout sessions, and report-back segments to ensure diverse voices were heard. Key activities included facilitating discussions to understand staff experiences, conducting small group sessions to delve into specific areas, and analyzing data from surveys and internal records to identify trends and areas for improvement. Collaborative workshops with staff helped develop actionable recommendations based on the findings.
The consultation process revealed several critical insights. Based on these findings, MindTribes formulated specific actions across 14 key work streams, such as strategy and policy review, leadership initiatives, complaints handling, feedback mechanisms, workplace culture, and training.
The Gender Equality Action Plan developed by MindTribes provided the Department with a clear and actionable roadmap to enhance their DEI practices. By addressing key issues identified during the consultation process and implementing targeted actions, the Department aims to foster a more inclusive, equitable, and culturally safe workplace.
